Slow Pages Lose Visitors Before They've Seen You.
Most people looking for a local business are on a phone, often on mobile data. If the page is still blank after a few seconds, many of them go back and pick the next result. Google also looks at how quickly pages load and settle as part of the page experience it rewards.
This test shows you where you stand and what to fix first. For a wider look at your homepage, including security, search and mobile set-up, try the Free Website Review.
Page Speed Questions
What is a good page speed score?+
Google calls 90 to 100 good, 50 to 89 needs improvement and under 50 poor. The phone score is the one to watch: most visitors to a local business arrive on a phone.
Why is my phone score lower than my desktop score?+
Google tests the phone version on a mid-range phone over a slower mobile connection, so the same page takes longer. That's deliberate: it's closer to what a lot of your visitors actually get.
Why does my score change every time I test?+
Each test is a fresh visit, and the server, the network and anything your page loads from other services vary a little each time. A few points either way is normal. Look at the trend, not one test.
Does page speed affect where I show up on Google?+
Google says page experience, which includes loading speed, is one of the things it considers, alongside how relevant and useful the page is. A fast page won't outrank a better answer, but a slow one loses visitors who give up waiting.
What does "real visitors" mean?+
When enough people using Chrome have visited a page, Google shares how fast it actually was for them over the last 28 days. Smaller sites often don't have enough visits for this yet, so you'll only see Google's test.
Is this the same test Google uses?+
Yes. The scores come straight from Google PageSpeed Insights. We run it for you and explain the results in plain English.
